Pyramid power (Sleeping Pyramids)refers to alleged supernatural or paranormal properties of the ancient Egyptian pyramids and objects of similar shape. With this power, model pyramids are said to preserve foods, sharpen or maintain the sharpness of razor blades, improve health (some people "were so energized that they could not cope with the dynamo effects they experienced"), function "as a thought-form incubator," trigger sexual urges, and cause other dramatic effects.
Pyramid power (Sleeping Pyramids)is one of many pseudoscientific theories regarding pyramids. Such theories are collectively referred to as pyramidology.

History(Sleeping Pyramids) The idea that small models of pyramids can preserve food was developed in the 1930s by French hardware store owner and pendulum dowsing author Antoine Bovis. Unverifiable stories persist that Bovis stumbled across a paranormal force while standing inside the King's Chamber of the Great Pyramid in Egypt. According to this legend, he saw a garbage can inside the chamber which had been piled with dead animals who had wandered into the structure. Bovis noticed that these small carcasses were not decaying, and inferred that the structure was somehow preserving them.
This popular version is contradicted by an account discovered by Junior Skeptic magazine in which Bovis denies visiting Egypt. In this self-published French-language booklet Bovis off-handedly ascribes the discovery of pyramid power to armchair reasoning and mystical experiments in Europe using a dowsing pendulum:
I have supposed that Egyptians were already very good dowsers and had oriented their pyramid by means of rod and pendulum. Being unable to go there to experiment and verify the radiations of the Keops Pyramid, I have built with cardboard some pyramids that you can see now, and I was astonished when, having built a regular pyramid and oriented it, I found the positive at the East, the negative at the West, and at the North and the South, dual-positive and dual-negative.
Despite the legend, the idea that pyramids could preserve food was not a result of a chance discovery made while standing inside the Great Pyramid, but followed from Bovis's previous convictions regarding dowsing:
A new supposition: since with the help of our positive 2000° magnetic plates we can mummify small animals, could the pyramid have the same property? I tried, and as you can observe with the small fish and the little piece of meat still hanging, I succeeded totally.
Inspired by Bovis, in 1949 a Czechoslovakian named Karel Drbal applied for a patent on a "Pharaoh’s shaving device": a model pyramid alleged to maintain the sharpness of razor blades. According to the patent, "The method of maintaining the razor blades and straight razor blades sharp by placing them in the magnetic field in such a way that the sharp edge lies in the direction of the magnetic lines." Drbal alleged that his device would focus the "the earth's magnetic field," although he was unclear how this would work or whether it was the device's shape or materials that exerted the effect.
Drbal's contention that razors could be sharpened (or have their sharpness maintained) by alignment with the points of the compass or the Earth's magnetic field was probably not original to him. Junior Skeptic magazine discovere exactly similar claims published decades earlier. In 1933, the London Times carried letters claiming, "if I oriented my razor blades…N. and S. by the compass…they tend to last considerably longer” and “The idea of keeping razor blades in a magnetic field is not quite new. About the year 1900 I found this out….”
In 1968, paranormal authors Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder visited Czechoslovakia, where they happened across a cardboard pyramid manufactured commercially by Drbal. They met with Drbal, then dedicated a chapter of their popular 1970 book Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain to pyramid power. This book introduced to the English-speaking world both the concept of pyramid power and the apocryphal origin story about Antoine Bovis.
Origin of Term(Sleeping Pyramids) It's unclear who coined the term "pyramid power." Author Max Toth has claimed he coined the phrase, as has Patrick Flanagan.[citation needed] In the 1970s, both authors released books entitled Pyramid Power. This led to a lawsuit by Flanagan against Toth, according to Toth.
The term may also have been coined in the late 1960s by Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder, whose 1970 book Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain contains a chapter entitled "Pyramid Power" on that same topic.
Claims(Sleeping Pyramids) According to Flanagan, pyramids with the exact relative dimensions of Egyptian pyramids act as "an effective resonator of randomly polarized microwave signals which can be converted into electrical energy." Flanagan's claims range from enhancing the nutritional value of foods[citation needed] to sharpening knives by placing them under such a pyramid (aka the "Pat Flanagan Experimental Sensor") overnight.[citation needed]
Volodymyr Krasnoholovets claimed to have replicated some of those claims. He reported that a razor blade placed in a pyramid "resonator" became smoother and less angular over time.[citation needed]
These claims got scant credibility, even within the alternative science community.[citation needed]
It has been claimed that, like alchemy, the concept of "pyramid power" is symbolic rather than literal, having to do with psychological effects and not physical ones.[citation needed]
Another contention of "pyramid power" is "scalar resonance" caused by the geometric shape of the pyramid, also related to "shape energy". Any electromagnetic frequencies are converted by the direct influence of the perfect pyramid shape causing it to act as an accumulator changing them into a new harmonized form of energy or prana.[citation needed]
Impact(Sleeping Pyramids) The pyramid at Summerhill Winery, Kelowna, BC. Flanagan’s book was featured on the cover and in the lyrics of The Alan Parsons Project album Pyramid, contributing to its popularity. "Pyramania", a song from the album, mocked the pyramid power theory.
Pyramid power was the subject of a famous spoof by Martin Gardner in his "Mathematical Games" column in Scientific American June 1974, featuring his favorite characters Dr. Matrix, and Iva Matrix.
The theories behind Pyramid Power convinced the Onan Family, hotel and condo developers in Gurnee, Illinois, to build the Pyramid House (Satellite via Google) in 1977.
Summerhill Pyramid Winery in Kelowna, British Columbia built a 4-story replica of the Great Pyramid[1], believed to improve the quality of wine aged within it.
Terry Pratchett's fantasy novel Pyramids incorporates many elements of the Pyramid Power theory: in the novel, an industry develops based around pyramids' ability to stop time.
MythBusters(Sleeping Pyramids) In 2005, an episode of MythBusters was aired on the Discovery Channel in which a test of pyramid power was performed, using pyramids built to the specifications found in pyramid power claims, such as using the location of the King's Chamber in the Great Pyramid of Giza. Several scenarios were tested — perishables (in this case food and a flower) rotting, and razor blade sharpening. The tests, once corrected for errors, yielded no appreciable differences between items in the pyramids and items outside. (In one rotting experiment, it appeared that the saw used to cut one of the apples had a larger microbial content on one side, which would have increased the rotting ability of one half of the apple that was cut.)

A pyramid(Sleeping Pyramids) is a building where the outer surfaces are triangular and converge at a point. The base of a pyramid is usually trilateral or quadrilateral (but may be of any polygon shape), meaning that a pyramid usually has four or five faces. A pyramid's design, with the majority of the weight closer to the ground, means that less material higher up on the pyramid will be pushing down from above: this allowed early civilizations to create stable monumental structures.
For thousands of years, the largest structures on Earth were pyramids: first the Red Pyramid in the Dashur Necropolis and then the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still remaining. The largest pyramid ever built, by volume, is the Great Pyramid of Cholula, in the Mexican state of Puebla. This pyramid is still being excavated.
Ancient monuments(Sleeping Pyramids)
Pyramid-shaped structures were built by many ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Mayans, Sumerians and Cambodia.
China(Sleeping Pyramids)
There are many square flat-topped mound tombs in China. The First Emperor of Qin (circa 221 BC) was buried under a large mound outside modern day Xi'an. In the following centuries about a dozen more Han Dynasty royals were also buried under flat-topped pyramidal earthworks.
France(Sleeping Pyramids)
There is a Roman era pyramid built in Falicon, France. There were many more pyramids built in France in this period.
Egyptian pyramids(Sleeping Pyramids)
Main article: Egyptian pyramids
The most famous pyramids are the Egyptian pyramids — huge structures built of brick or stone, some of which are among the largest constructions. There are 138 pyramids discovered in Egypt as of 2008. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest in Egypt and one of the largest in the world. Until Lincoln Cathedral was built in 1400 AD, it was the tallest building in the world. The base is over 52,600 square meters in area. Egypt has the most pyramids in the world, with Sudan coming in at a close second.
It was one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and the only one of the seven to survive into modern times. The Ancient Egyptians covered their faces with polished white limestone, though most of the stones used for the purpose have fallen or have been removed and used to build the mosques of Cairo.
Greece(Sleeping Pyramids)
Dotted throughout the landscape are remains of buildings that were described by ancient travelers as pyramids. They were first excavated by Americans and Germans in the early 1900s and the 1960s.
Pausanias, a Greek traveler in the second century AD described several of the structures as pyramids. One of these pyramids was located in Hellenikon (Ελληνικό in Greek), a village near Argos near the ancient ruins of Tiryns. The story surrounding the monument was that it was built as a polyandria, a common grave, for those soldiers who had fallen in the struggle for the throne of Argos back in the 14th Century BC He described the structure as something that resembled a pyramid with the decorations of Argolic shields, showing the military connection to it. Another pyramid that Pausanias saw on his journeys was at Kenchreai, another polyandria dedicated to the Argives and Spartans who lost their lives at the Battle of Hysiai in 669 BC. Unfortunately neither of these structures remain fully intact today to test how closely they resembled the pyramids of Egypt nor is there any proof that they even resembled an Egyptian pyramid at all.
There are two surviving pyramid-like structures still available to study, one at Hellenikon and the other at Ligourion, a village near the ancient theatre Epidaurus. With these two pyramid’s base stones remaining, it is possible to determine that Grecian pyramids existed. These buildings were not constructed in the same manner as the pyramids in Egypt. The buildings at Hellenikon and Ligourion were no more than 70 meters tall and were surrounded by walls, with the base of the Helleniko pyramid being nine meters by 7 meters. The stone used to build the pyramids was limestone quarried locally and was cut to fit, not into freestanding blocks like the Great Pyramid of Giza. The base of the structures also differed from the Egyptian pyramids as they were rectangular, not square. This simple construction shape made it very difficult to make the top of the building come together in a point. As such, it makes more sense that these structures could have been peaked by a roof or platform.
There are no remains or graves in or near the structures. Instead, the rooms that the walls housed were made to be locked from the inside. This coupled with the platform roof, means that one of the functions these structures could have served was as watchtowers. Another possibility for the buildings is that they are shrines to heroes and soldiers of ancient times, but the lock on the inside makes no sense for such a purpose.
The dating of these ‘pyramids’ has been made from the pot shards excavated from the floor and on the grounds. The latest dates available from scientific dating have been estimated around the 5th and 4th centuries. There are many researchers who have given dates to the structures that pre-date the pyramids at Giza, but the method to obtain these dates was thermoluminescence of the stone.[citation needed] Normally this technique is used for dating pottery, but here researchers have used it to try to date stone flakes from the walls of the structures. This has created some debate about whether or not these ‘pyramids’ are actually older than Egypt, which is part of the Black Athena controversy.[citation needed] The basis for their use of thermoluminescence in order to date these structures is a new method of collecting samples for testing. Scientists from laboratories hired out by the recent excavators of the site, The Academy of Athens, say that they can use the electrons trapped on the inner surface of the stones to positively identify the date that the stones were quarried and put together.
Detail of the main gopura (tower) of the Thanjavur Temple pyramid in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu
The issue with this method is that they date the pyramids with a margin of error of up to over 700 years. This method dated the Helleniko pyramid to 2730 BC with an error factor of plus or minus 720 years. It also dated the Ligourio pyramid to 2260 BC with an error of plus or minus 714 years. Though these initial dates are indicative of these structures being built before the pyramid complex at Giza, it also means that they could have been built well after Khufu’s Great Pyramid was erected. Some archaeologists, however, have indicated that these samples may have been very select in their choice of which stones to sample. Further excavations of the site at Helleniko reveal that it was constructed on a previously existing structure, giving a possibility that the new methods of dating may be a misinterpretation.
Along with these five structures there are 14 more pyramid-like buildings, or their remains, scattered throughout the rest of the country side of Greece. These sites do not get as much attention as the two at Helleniko and Ligourio as they are the only ones mentioned in surviving accounts of ancient travelers.
India(Sleeping Pyramids)
Many giant granite temple pyramids were made in South India during the Chola Empire, many of which are still in religious use today. Examples of such pyramid temples include Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur, the Temple of Gangaikondacholisvaram and the Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram. However the largest temple pyramid in the area is Sri Rangam in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu. The Brihadisvara Temple was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1987; the Temple of Gangaikondacholisvaram and the Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram were added as extensions to the site in 2004.

Mesoamerican pyramids(Sleeping Pyramids)
A number of Mesoamerican cultures also built pyramid-shaped structures. Mesoamerican pyramids were usually stepped, with temples on top, more similar to the Mesopotamian ziggurat than the Egyptian pyramid.
Mexico(Sleeping Pyramids)
The largest pyramid by volume is the Great Pyramid of Cholula, in the Mexican state of Puebla. This pyramid is considered the largest monument ever constructed anywhere in the world, and is still being excavated. The third largest pyramid in the world, the Pyramid of the Sun, is also located in Mexico. There is an unusual pyramid with a circular plan at the site of Cuicuilco, now inside Mexico City and mostly covered with lava from an ancient eruption of Xictli. Pyramidsin Mexico were often used as places of human sacrifice.
Mesopotamian pyramids(Sleeping Pyramids)
The Mesopotamians built the earliest pyramids, called ziggurats. In ancient times these were brightly painted. Since they were constructed of mud-brick, little remains of them. The Biblical Tower of Babel is believed to have been a Babylonian ziggurat .
North American pyramids(Sleeping Pyramids)
Many mound-building societies of ancient North America built large pyramidal earth structures known as platform mounds. Among the largest and best-known of these structures is Monk's Mound at the site of Cahokia, which has a base larger than that of the Great Pyramid at Giza. While the North American mounds' precise function is not known, they are believed to have played a central role in the mound-building people's religious life.Nubian pyramids
Nubian pyramids were constructed (roughly 220 of them) at three sites in Nubia to serve as tombs for the kings and queens of Napata and Meroë. Kush pyramid also known as Nubian Pyramids were built before Egypt built its great pyramids. The Nubian pyramids were constructed at a steeper angle than Egyptian ones and were monuments to dead kings and queens.Pyramids were still being built in Nubia up to AD 300.
Rome(Sleeping Pyramids)
The 27-metre-high Pyramid of Cestius was built by the end of the first century BC and still exists today, close to the Porta San Paolo. Another one, named Meta Romuli, standing in the Ager Vaticanus (today's Borgo), was destroyed at the end of the 15th century.
Medieval Europe(Sleeping Pyramids)
Pyramids have occasionally been used in Christian architecture of the feudal era, e.g. as the tower of Oviedo's Gothic Cathedral of San Salvador. In some cases this leads to speculations on masonic or other symbolical intentions.
Modern pyramids(Sleeping Pyramids)
Examples of modern pyramids are:
- The Louvre Pyramid in Paris, France, in the court of the Louvre Museum, is a 20.6 meter (about 70 foot) glass structure which acts as an entrance to the museum. It was designed by the American architect I. M. Pei and completed in 1989.
- The Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco, California, designed by William Pereira.
- The 32-story Pyramid Arena in Memphis, Tennessee (built in 1991) was the home court for the University of Memphis men's basketball program, and the National Basketball Association's Memphis Grizzlies until 2004.
- The Slovak radio building in Bratislava, Slovakia. This building is shaped like an inverted pyramid.
- The Walter Pyramid, home of the basketball and volleyball teams of the California State University, Long Beach, campus in California, United States, is an 18-story-tall blue pyramid.
- The Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, United States, is a 30-story pyramid with light beaming from the top.

Water is not "purified" under a pyramid, as the claims say, however it is chemically altered. Water is a polar molecule. The hydrogen bond is what allows this change to occur.
The orgone energy produced by the pyramid polarizes, lines up, or somehow alters the hydrogen bond. This alters not only the taste of the water but some of it's chemical properties as well. Water that is "charged" with pyramid/orgone energy can (more)
